We might as well have been frying ourselves. We would always burn, but that was suppose to be the beginning of a good tan.

Everyone would walk around with a burn, only to peel and then tan. I shudder when I think of it now. My brother was a red head, and I was blonde. We both had sensitive skin, but more so him.

Years later, we know this was not good. But did you also know that moles are not the only symptom of melanoma skin cancer? He had a cut that did not heal. He didn't even remember getting the cut, but it was on his inner thigh. He left it for months, and by the time he got it checked it was too late.

He was only 48 years old.

To this day, I check myself every month. I have had some suspicious moles removed, but so far so good. If you stay on top of your skin health, and wear sunscreen, not only will you skin not age you, you will notice any changes that can be taken care of now.

This article may help you to Deadly Mistake with Melanoma Skin Cancer
also Surviving Melanoma

Melanoma Options

There are treatment options for melanoma, so please do not leave it too long. We all know that moles are something to be watched, but he didn't realize that a simple little cut that did not heal was also a melanoma warning.
There has been a lot of research on cancer and especially melanoma, in early detection and cures.
I have found this great ebook, on some of the breaking news on cancer in the USA.

"Malignant melanoma: Defeated!
An opera singer from Texas named Bernadette was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a deadly cancer of the skin. She went to the California alternative clinic. The doctor gave her a food plan, helped her detoxify, and gave her other natural therapies.

Melanoma is a disease that spreads quickly. But it didn’t spread anywhere in her body because the natural treatment brought the cancer to a screeching halt. She recovered from her melanoma through non-chemical, totally natural remedies. Her melanoma has never come back, which her oncologist confirmed. She’s in total remission with her melanoma.

Today Bernadette says, “I have never felt this good in my life. I’m going to school, and I’m right now doing everything myself. But I have so much energy, and I’m doing so much better.” She’s now studying to become a holistic doctor.

In my new Special Report Cancer Breakthrough USA! The little-known American clinics that turn around even “hopeless” cancer, I describe this clinic and six other alternative clinics in detail — plus information about nine more excellent clinics spread throughout America." Click Here!

I wish I could have got my brother to try some other ideas with his cancer, but he did not. I am always reading up on Melanoma Cancer, as I now have a higher chance of getting it because of my brother having it. I like to keep informed, and I found this ebook to be very good.
At the end of the day, we are in charge of our own health.

Melanoma Skin Cancer Stories

My Brother David, died back in April from advanced Melanoma Skin Cancer.

I have since learned a lot about this form of skin cancer, and wish I had known more before. We have all heard about the changing moles, and wear sunscreen. But you need to watch all changes to your skin.
David had an unhealed cut that didn't hurt, and kept scabbing over, and he left it for a very long time before getting it looked at. He worked shifts, and had a life, and didn't think much about it.

Even his own doctor didn't think it was more than a slight infection that was preventing the healing. A biopsy was done to see what type of medicine would heal this cut, only to find out it was not an infection, but stage 4 melanoma skin cancer. We were all shocked.. This proves, that it is up to YOU to find these unhealed sores, or changing moles and push to have them checked out.

Once we knew it was stage 4, there was not much information out there on treatments, whether Orthodox, or alternative. I found this book of inspirational stories from people who did survive advanced melanoma, and what they did for treatment, and if you, or anyone else you know is struggling with melanoma skin cancer, it is well worth the read. I wish I had found this ebook earlier, I may have been able to help my brother. A portion of the ebook price is donated for melanoma skin cancer research. Here is an example:

“People are often sceptical when I tell my story. Four years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma (the final and almost-always fatal kind). I chose to treat it solely with alternative therapies and powerful positive thinking.
Now, four years later, I'm cancer-free."

That's Glenda's survival story ... read on and discover the uplifting stories from six other amazing melanoma survivors ... CLICK HERE! and find more inspirational stories of survival.

How I Survived Malignant Melanoma Skin Cancer

Click the title and find out..

Below is another great article I found on the different types of skin cancer. Skin cancer develops when damaged cells start growing and dividing uncontrollably in the skin. This form of cancer is the most prevalent with more than one million cases in the United States diagnosed each year. Here we will cover some of the commonly asked questions.

What Are The Different Forms of Skin Cancer?

There are different types of skin cancer with three forms accounting for almost all of the diagnosed cases. They are:

• Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
- Accounting for nearly 80% of skin cancer, BCC develops in the basal cells which are located in the lowest layer of the epidermis. It is commonly found on areas of the body regularly exposed to the sun such as your face, head and upper body. Signs of BCC include skin that appears as a sore that repeatedly heals and re-opens, a slightly elevated pink growth, patch of irritated skin that is red in color and/or shiny translucent skin. This type of cancer does not commonly spread but should be treated to protect surrounding tissue.

• Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)- Found in the uppermost layers of the epidermis, SCC cancer affects squamous cells. Long term exposure to the sun can result in this form of cancer in middle to elderly aged individuals. The skin may appear to have an inflamed base with a crusty or scaly area over the base. While this cancer is most commonly found on areas of the body exposed to the sun, it can be found anywhere. Early detection and treatment can prevent this form of cancer from spreading.

• Melanoma- The most dangerous and lethal form of skin cancer, this form accounts for only 4% of diagnosed cases. Melanoma readily spreads to other areas of your body such as your lymph system or other internal organs. Most commonly found in moles either pre-existing or new, melanoma has a 95% cure rate if caught in time for treatment. It is important that you are aware of any moles on your body and what they look like so you can spot changes in existing moles or the appearance of new moles. Undetected and untreated, melanoma becomes very difficult to treat and can result in death.

Who Gets Skin Cancer?

To be quite honest, anyone can get any type of cancer. There are however certain individuals who are at a higher risk than others. The following factors play a role in the likelihood of developing skin cancer:

• Individuals who are fair-skinned or burn easily.

• People who use tanning devices.

• Genetics or family history of the disease.

• Certain occupational exposures, i.e. coal tar, pitch, creosote, arsenic or radium.

• Excessive exposure to UV radiation.

Exposure to the sun is the leading cause of cancer which makes protecting your skin from sun exposure vitally important.

Can You Prevent Cancer?

Yes, you can take precautions that lower your risk of developing skin cancer. Take all effort to reduce your exposure to sun and other controllable risk factors. This includes wearing SPF 15 or higher sunscreen everyday in addition to sunglasses and brimmed hats to shield your face from the sun. If at all possible avoid exposing your skin to sunlight during the peak of the day (10am-4pm) and give up tanning beds as they can also damage your skin.

For more information on cancer you can visit the American Cancer Society or National Cancer Institute.

Tisha Kulak Tolar is a writer for Fit4EverYoung.com, where she writes about bodybuilding, exercise, general health and fitness, nutrition and supplements.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Tisha_Kulak_Tolar
http://EzineArticles.com/?The-Lowdown-on-Skin-Cancer&id=2504723

Skin Cancer

There are many different treatment options now, and many that are being studied. Below is one idea that is being used with Green Tea.

If you would like to read about survivors of Malignant Melanoma, click this link, and get some positive feedback. Investigations have revealed that the green tea has proven unexpected benefits for the skin, some of which have not even been suspected at first.

The current practice of introducing phytochemicals to support the immune system or fight against diseases is based on centuries old traditions. Nutrimed support is a recent advancement in the domain of diet-based therapies; green tea and its constituents are one of the important components of these strategies to prevent and help cure various malignancies with standard treatment prescribed by your oncologist.

As melanoma is being seen in younger and younger people, in their 30s and 40s, there is a longer window for the cancer to return and a greater desire to avoid disfiguring surgery. While more study is needed to understand how the green tea works and which patients are likely to benefit from it, we are optimistic that it may prove to be a good option for some patients. This may be an effective first line treatment as prevention . Since melanoma takes up to 15 years to develop, during that time a host of treatments could be applied to stop the evolution of the disease. However, as experts have pinpointed, no medical procedure could beat good protection against the medical condition, which could, after implementation, lead to tumors and to the spread of other organs as well.

Have your mole checked every year by your doctor and in the mean time drink green tea. Through his many years of research on biological impacts to cancer, Yanick Bertand has discovered that a reaction occurs when we fight cancer with nutritional elements - such as the food that we eat. In his research on the fight against cancer, Yanick has come across critical information that is not known by the general public. It is Yanick's desire to educate the public on how they can help fight cancer.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Yanick_Bertrand_Ph.D.
http://EzineArticles.com/?Skin-Cancer-May-Be-Fought-With-Green-Tea&id=2295653

Melanoma signs

First off, let me tell you, that I am not a doctor, but a grieving sister. I just lost my brother to melanoma. This is a serious skin cancer, but if you take pro- action and take care of your skin, early detection has a huge success rate.

My brother ignored his. We are all told to watch out for changing moles etc, but his started out as a cut. He was showering and noticed what looked like a thin "paper cut" on his thigh, that did not hurt, and he couldn't remember cutting himself at all, it then formed a thick scab, that wouldn't heal.

But he just ignored it, and kept ignoring it. The scab would fall off and then form again. He kept putting antiseptic on it, thinking it had a minor infection, but then felt it was just being irritated by his jeans.

He left this scab so long, that finally it annoyed him after a year or so, and he went to get it dealt with. The doctor sent him to a surgeon who took a biopsy, with the horrid results of Stage 4 Melanoma Cancer, it was checked twice because of its beginnings, a cut rather than a mole. But by this time the melanoma cancer had spread to internal organs.

My brother David, died April 24, 2009 not able to battle this horrible cancer, because melanoma does not respond to traditional cancer treatments. The best defence is to have it cut off or out before it spreads.

So, map your body, get anything unusual checked out, including cuts that don't heal, or any skin irritation, it does not have to be a mole. If my brother had got it looked at when he found it, I would most likely be seeing him at the next family gathering. He was only 48 years old.

I am just as bad, as I never really wore sunscreen, and of course baked as a teenager to get that "glow" so, now I am more vigilant. I do not obsess with moles, but once a month or so, my husband and I check out each others moles and scars to see if anything has changed. My brother made us all promise (there are 3 siblings) that we would not be as stupid as he was, and not get these things check out.. There are other forms of skin cancer that are not quite as serious, so even if yours does not look like melanoma, anything different should be checked out.
